Sasha Bhavan, Senior Partner
BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA
Sasha Bhavan is a founding partner of Knox Bhavan Architects. She has been a practising architect for over 30 years during which time she has been responsible for many beautiful, interesting, acclaimed, and award winning projects. These projects range in size and character and include new cafes and hub buildings in parks, works to precious Listed Buildings and a number of acclaimed new houses.
She is particularly interested in looking at buildings in their context/landscape, making buildings with clarity of form, detailing, simple and contemporary. She believes in the power of the team; client, professional and builder working together. As a result she has established many long-standing successful professional relationships and collaborations with other design professionals, including landscape architects, engineers and contractors.
Sasha enjoys teaching the next generation of architects and is currently a part-time teaching fellow at the University of Bath and external examiner at both Falmouth University and University of Portsmouth. She has also been a visiting lecturer and critic at the Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture in Pittsburgh in the US, and regularly lectures at universities in the UK.
Sasha was a long-standing member of the RIBA Premises Committee, involved in many of the appointments and decisions regarding 66 Portland Place. She has been Jury chair for RIBA Awards, an architectural assessor for the Civic Trust Awards, and has contributed to a recent RIBA competitions task force. Sasha is also a member of the Hertfordshire Design Review Panel.
Sasha is a former Governor and Chair of the Governors at Sydenham High School, GDST, specifically promoting excellence in education for girls, and was a founding Trustee for Art in the Park (Burgess Park Southwark). In 2016 Sasha became a Trustee and Non-executive Director for the Creative Education Trust. She occasionally writes for Architectural Journals.
Sasha trained at Portsmouth School of Architecture where she was nominated for the President’s Silver Medal, and won the RIBA Southern Region prize and the Professional Practice prize. She qualified with a double distinction.
Before founding Knox Bhavan Architects with Simon Knox in 1995 she worked for ten years as a director at Edward Cullinan Architects.
