This new hub building forms part of the HLF grant to restore Cassiobury Park’s 870 acres, providong additional facilities. The Hub building provides educational and information space, a park management office, a café space, space for the park volunteers, toilets, sports and pool changing facilities, including disabled changing facilities and disabled WC.
Conceived as a single-storey steel frame building sitting on a concrete podium, the ambition for minimal maintenance was achieved using self-finished concrete gabions, corten steel and larch, whilst its considerable sustainable credentials contributed to its overall positive public reception. The new Hub building embraces Watford’s holistic ‘be lean, be clean, be green’ principles.
