Simon Knox Simon Knox BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA, Partner

During his twenty years in Architectural Practice Simon has been responsible for the design and construction of a number of beautiful buildings. He has considerable experience as a Design Team leader, and has first hand knowledge of construction management derived from 'hands on' experience directing labour and subcontracts. He acquired this over a number of years while based on site, dealing with direct labour and subcontracts.

He was a former Director of Edward Cullinan Architects, and while at ECA was involved in the design for the new Library for St John's College, Cambridge. He has directed a number of Knox Bhavan projects including Holly Barn, The Pavilion and Hodges Place.

He is extremely interested in furniture and product design, which has enabled many of Knox Bhavan's projects to have a further level of detail added to their work. This ranges from material castings (aluminium, bronze, and cast iron), aluminium extrusion design, fitted and free standing furniture, and door handles. His understanding of materials, and thus his ability to detail, is consummate, admired and appreciated by his peers, critics and clients.

Sasha Bhavan Sasha Bhavan BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA, Partner

With over 20 years experience as a practising Architect, as a Partner/Director of Edward Cullinan Architects for 10 years before setting up Knox Bhavan Architects in 1996, Sasha has been responsible for and involved in many interesting, acclaimed, award winning and varied projects over the years. These range in size and character and include refurbishment work and modern interventions to precious listed buildings, many private houses, changing rooms & new cafés in various London parks, major planning appeal work and educational buildings (including a new junior school in Hampshire and a nursery hall in Peckham).

She is particularly interested in looking at buildings in their context/landscape and making buildings with clarity of detailing, simple and contemporary. She believes in the power of the team; client, professional and builder working together. As a result she has many long-standing successful professional relationships resulting from her collaborations with other design professionals.

She is currently Chair of the Governors at Sydenham High School GDST and is a former Trustee for Art in the Park (Burgess Park Southwark). She is an architectural assessor for the Civic Trust Awards, Jury chair for RIBA Awards and a member of the RIBA Premises Committee.

Sasha trained at Portsmouth School of Architecture where she won the RIBA Southern Region prize the Professional Practice prize and qualified with a double distinction.

Lucy Thomas Lucy Thomas BA (Hons) Dip Arch, Partner

Since joining Knox Bhavan Architects in 2004 Lucy has worked on several projects at various stages from concept design through to detailed drawings and construction. These include new build and refurbishment private residential projects, an art and sculpture workshop in Burgess Park, London, and the recently completed café and changing rooms on Peckham Rye Common, London. Currently Lucy is working with Lambeth Council on a new One O'Clock Club and Adult Toilet Block in Myatt's Fields Park and on the remodelling of the existing changing rooms building in Brockwell Park.

Lucy has also compiled a series of educational worksheets, which encourage children to look at and think about the way buildings are used and how they work with their surroundings. The worksheets are currently being trialled in Greenwich schools with great success.

Her previous experience includes working at the Atelier d'Architecture Philippe Madec in Paris, and Tim Ronalds Architects in London. She has also undertaken practical building experience working for a carpenter specialising in large frame oak carpentry and as a volunteer building a library in Ghana, West Africa. Lucy studied at Cambridge University and the Mackintosh School of Architecture (Glasgow) graduating with her Diploma in 2004 and qualifying as an architect in 2007.

Ben Ridley Ben Ridley BSc (Hons) DipArch, Architectural Assistant

Ben graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture in 2005. After gaining experience at MSA and FCBa he returned to the Bartlett to undertake a Diploma in architecture. Ben's final Diploma building project proposed an ‘Architecture of Myth' at Thingvellir in Iceland. This large and multi-faceted building was designed to manipulate the threshold between the synthetic and the natural, employing shifts in composition of landscape and architecture to provide a heightened sensory awareness of the Icelandic landscape. Ben is interested in materiality and investigative technical approaches to design; particularly methods by which architecture might manipulate or celebrate our experience of surrounding environmental conditions.

Ben qualified with a distinction in design & commendation in thesis; and gained a number of further accolades for his work, including an International Design Award. He joined Knox Bhavan Architects in 2010, and has since worked on a residential refurbishment and extension in Dulwich, South London, and a new build property in Hertfordshire.
