Knox Bhavan Architects was founded by Simon Knox in 1992 who was joined by Sasha Bhavan in 1996, both are former partners of Edward Cullinan Architects. KBA follow in a strong tradition of practices formed by previous partners/directors of Edward Cullinan Architects. Over the years they have maintained close links with Edward Cullinan Architects as well as Penoyre and Prasad, another practice to have come from the Cullinan stable.
Initially the practice was based on site carrying out the detailed design work but also managing the hands on day to day running of the site. This site work involved developing direct relationships with craftsmen and makers, which informed and has continued to inform their work in a more direct way than is usual for architects. This hands on work has continued to be at the core of much of the detailed and intricate design work produced by KBA.
In 2001 KBA built their own office building. They now work on a range of projects where they fulfil the traditional role of architect whilst still keeping to their original principles of the detailed understanding of building construction.
